10 Checks Before You Start With Crypto

Check your money, jurisdiction, and risk conditions before asking what to buy.

After this guide, you should be able to:
  • Separate learning, payments, investing, and speculation
  • Set a loss limit that does not affect daily life
  • Know when missing conditions mean stop

Answer three questions first

Why are you exploring crypto: payments, long-term research, short-term trading, or a tip from someone else? Different goals require different tools and risk controls.

  • Pause if the money comes from debt, credit, emergency savings, or near-term expenses.
  • Do not act if you cannot explain the asset, exit route, and worst-case loss.
  • Do not bypass jurisdiction or identity-verification restrictions.

Turn “I can lose it” into a boundary

Write down an amount, time horizon, and stop condition. Include scams, withdrawal freezes, stablecoin depegs, and transfer mistakes in the worst case.

  • Keep emergency savings separate.
  • Learn spot and small-value operations before leverage.
  • Decide in advance when you will stop adding funds.

Pre-start checklist

  • No debt, credit, emergency savings, or near-term expense money
  • Jurisdiction and platform availability verified
  • Prepared for severe decline or total loss
  • Asset and exit method understood
  • Separate email, strong password, and 2FA ready
  • Know that support never needs a seed phrase or private key
  • Can identify fees, spread, withdrawal charges, and gas
  • Starting with small spot activity, not derivatives
  • Critical facts have primary sources
  • No urgency from countdowns, chats, or profit screenshots

Three-question self-check

1. Which money should stay out?

Debt, emergency savings, and money needed soon.

2. Why verify jurisdiction for a small amount?

Account, verification, and withdrawal restrictions do not depend on amount.

3. Why exclude leverage at first?

It magnifies losses and introduces liquidation.
